List of undesirable Substances (LOUS) 2009

The Danish LOUS consists of 40 substances/groups of substances selected for their problematic effects according to criteria defined by the Danish EPA. The list is meant as a signal to manufacturers and formulators and others about which substances they can focus on in their work with substitution or stop their usage.

Surfactants - such as Sulphonates - that do not completely break down under anaerobic conditions are now excluded from the LOUS 2009 (See the Annex D - Substances removed from the previous LOUS -). Changed patterns of consumption have shown that the substances do not pose the same problem with regard to the waste stream. Further data also shows that LAS is not as problematic as previously thought. http://www.mst.dk/English/Chemicals/Substances_and_materials/Lists+of+substances/)

ECOSOL Position Paper on EU Ecolabel for professional Laundry and Dishwasher Detergents  (March 2011)

The ECOSOL Member Companies issued in March 2011 a position paper to highlight the fact that the proposal which limits the use of aNBO and anNBO in the proposed criteria (Criterion 3) does not respect the principle of “science based” defined in article 6 of the regulation. This position paper was defended at the 1st Ad Hoc Working Group Meeting, held in Copenhagen on 5 and 6 April 2011.
